Below are a list of questions about estate sales. Roll over the question to see the answer.
What are estate sales?
Long ago, estate sales referred to a sale or an auction to liquidate the property (the estate) of someone who had died. A more modern interpretation of the term refers to any sale that liquidates a large amount of household goods. Often, people conduct estate sales before a relocation, when downsizing to a smaller home or when a senior moves in with relatives or to an assisted living facility. When couples divorce, an estate sale is sometimes an easy way to liquidate assets. Occasionally, a family might have a sale before redecorating or remodeling the home. And estate sales are still held after a loved one passes away.
Who should have an estate sale?
Anyone who has a large amount of household goods of value can have an estate sale. It could be because of the reasons listed above or just to reduce clutter.

Call us and schedule a meeting to discuss every detail of the sale. We will assess your needs and determine if an estate sale is best for you. Once we all agree on the details, we’ll sign a contract. After the contract is signed, you provide us with a key to the property and we immediately begin preparing for the sale. This involves researching and assessing the current value of items, pricing, cleaning, promoting and advertising the sale (we don’t disclose the address until the day before the sale), acquiring any necessary permits, conducting the sale, and cleaning up afterward. We immediately send you a check when the sale is over, less our agreed upon commission.

Discounting is a common practice at estate sales. People shop at estate sales looking for discounts, but these terms are negotiable.
I’m selling my house. Should I wait until I have an offer before scheduling my estate sale?
No, don’t wait until the house sells. In fact, having an estate sale now could help your house sell faster as it will help to de-clutter your home and make it more attractive to potential buyers.
Should I clean out my house before the sale?
Never throw anything away before an estate sale. Keep the “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” credo in mind and let our professionals assess what should be thrown out.
What happens to items that don’t sell?
You have several options. You may give items to friends and family members and/or donate them to charity. See our “Services” under property liquidation to learn more about how we can help you.
What is the upfront cost?
Nothing. We cover all the expenses. After the sale we will send you an invoice itemizing all these expenses and a check, minus our commission.
